This problem has never effected me, i just use a syringe to take out water and get it perfectly to the mark, but how does everyone else do it?

Dip and shake.......should use the large pipette but I use it for the ammonia so a bit pointless really

put test tube in water and fill to line its pretty easy, or am I missing the point?

When reading the headline there i was thinkin OMG have i been doin it wrong, so after checkin my testin box instructions there im glad to say, that accordin to mine Ive been doin it just fine
just dipping and waitin til water reaches the line.
is there sum reason why i should do it differently??

No reason at all that I know of, providing the tubes are clean before you put them in the tank water, which mine are as I rinse them out each time after use and before using them again.

Edit to add, just dont use the chemicals over the tank when putting the drops in, there have been cases of spilling them in the tank water which could/have resulted in problems.

I use a pippette. I find that easier, quicker and I do multiple tests so any quicker or easier is better in my book.

would using a pipette not mean havin to wash it as well then, meaning it would take a little bit more time lol :D

not that all this really matters tho, everyone has their own ways of doin it thats suits each person, so unless there was any reason why it needed to be done a certain way, which there's not, its a fairly do as ya please issue :D
and minxfishy makes a good point there bout usin chemicals over tanks :)

It's just a little plastic thing that sucks up water. I don't rinse it, just make sure I squirt all the water back out and shake it while I'm squirting it :)

wud the pipette be dry after that though?? In chemistry i learned that minimal traces of substances left in glassware cant effect the reading of any given test, it wouldn't be drastic alteration of the readin for the tanks, but as u said u do mutiple water tests, im sure traces are carried from tank to tank. And in terms of the amount of water needed for the tests, which is usually bout 5ml, this trace amounts of water from previous tanks coud take up quiet a large percent of the overall 5ml in the pipette, as opposed to the percentage that would be obtained from doin 10ml or 20ml tests and using 10ml or 20ml pipettes.
However, as ive said earlier, im sure if your reading are slightly inaccurate they wouldnt caused too much problems, and i see you've posted alot here so you've obviously not had problems with this method before, prob just somethin to be aware of :)

I just fill the tube from the tank, overfilling it a little, and flick my wrist to shake out a little at a time until the water comes down to the proper level. :D

I only do 2 tanks and that's it. I'm closing down the 2nd one now anyway. I'll probably use different pipettes when I start testing my saltwater tank anyways. :) I haven't had any water issues since I did a fish in cycle at the beginning of last year :good:

Just b/c someone posts alot doesn't mean they know anything :shifty: bwaaaahhhhh
