How big of a tank would it take to safely house two Male Bettas with no aggression?

I didn't vote because I don't want misleading results to show up. Some people have reported keeping males that have been raised together from fry in quite small tanks. Others have reported that when very large tanks house multiple males each forms a territory and defends it to the death. Not quite sure because I've never tried putting males together. I don't want dead bettas.

im under the impression that it cant be done (maybe im wrong, its not unheard of),but i imagine they would get pretty stressed out if kpt together, i have seen lots of tanks next to eachother where they can see eachother and there is constant flaring, so i wouldnt even give this a try, i keep one on his own and have never seen him flare ,:)
shelagh xxx

I think it may also depend on individual fighters. I have some that are born killers yet some wouldn't say boo to a goose. Personally...i wouldn't risk it.

IF possible... I'd say the minimum is probably nothing less than a 100gallon long tank that is heavily planted and decorated.
Even then I'd be SO nervous b/c eventually they will run into eachother and who knows what would happen.

It cant be done.

even if the tank was big enough for one to get away allot of damage would still be done to both fish when they do run into each other, you then have the possibility of stress killing them, or the chance of fin rot setting in which means you will be having to treat the whole tank or seperate them into smaller tanks to treat them. Cut out the hastle an keep them in there own tanks

a pond.

seriously their terratory will expand to whatever size tank they are in and they will fight to the death, or one will be the boss and the other will hide all the time in fear of death.

I dont think that most in the house tanks are big enough for them to truly get away from each other.

it gets my fish Tweek all hot bothered and stressed just to see the girls in the next tank over, I cant imagine the stress of actualy swimming with another male.

Just about any sized tank actually.......providing you put a divider in it ;)

:p sorry! just seems a pointless exercise :dunno:

It must be possible to keep more than one male betta in a large enough tank. After all, wild bettas don't each own their own creek, pond or stream. The problem is deciding how big a tank you want to have just so that the bettas don't run into each other much. I'm guessing its bigger than any tank I could have in my home.

Hi
I didn't vote either. Its not about how big does a tank have to be to house them safely. Two could live happily together for months in a very large tank and then........war. Its not how big, but why?? We've seen so many threads about 2 males together and how they are ok............then oh they're not!

Alright, guys, thanks for the replies. Don't worry, I don't plan on doing this, but I did wonder what it would take.

I think it's possible, but only with A LOT of plants and a HUGE tank or pond. Like OldMan47 Pointed out, they do live together in their natural habitat, but I'm not gonna even think about it.

I also was thinking about how captive bred bettas have been traditionaly raised to fight, must make them more agressive then wild, plus even in the wild if one male finds a other male they will fight to the death and the winner gains a bigger territory=more food and more women.

i second this in the wil survivlk of the fitest wins,,,, they woul ither kill eacg other or run awat and in a tank no matter how big eventuallt they would run in to each other,, why not just get a divider? that way they can flare all they want but not actually
''GET'' to each other ? i have a 3week old spawn now and i can allready see the bigest ones pushing the littlest ones areoundd, its just the kind of fish they are
