I've been reading about airstones and the benefits they are for my Guppies.

My questions to members are,

How big an airstone do I need for my 64 ltr tank?

(atm I have a thimble sized one and use it at half power ie: I have a clamp on the pipe)

Is this good enough?

Will it be better without the clamp on?

Do I need a different one altogether?

There isn't much of a benefit to a air stone over a filter or live plants?

In a way it does not provide that much oxygen or the amount you'd expect it to give. Putting in live plants and making sure the waters surface ripples from the filter is all you need without having a unsightly air stone stuffed in somewhere :p

As for the size, Airstones depend on the pressure a air pump can put out. Small air pump, Small air stone. Dont really know what sizes they come at never ever use them D:

Hi Darren,
I had live plants at first in the tank but became over run with pest snails. So I got rid and bought Assassin Snails to help control the pest snails. I have silk plants atm for me Guppies to hide in, so I think the airstone is more of a help than a hinder in me tank. The filter I have gives me movement of water in the tank and me Guppies seem to like swimming in its current. I think I'll keep the stone going, theory being a bit of oxygen in the water is better than none at all.
