Hiya all....

OK...so you all know i ditched my 55 day cycle and went for fish.

Today i added my final fish for this tank.

I know am proud (very proud) to say i have:

6x Panda Corydoras
5x Platy's
and...........
My Little Big Man "Jackson" My new Blue Betta. :hyper:

i also asked about feeding the Cory's and she said they should be ok just hoovering the floor..but i bought some Tetra small round wafer thingys. she said add 2 all broken up and go from there. Problem was ..they STILL werent intrested...and the fish ate them?! :/
they all seem to be mingling well, which is good.

Jackson is still a little nervous i suspect..i know they stay near the surface alot....but he's been there since i put him in. Hope he's ok.

I just thought i would add to...i always test the LFS water that they come home in...out of interest...
The bag the Platies and 2 cory's came home in when i got them tested 0-0...the second lot of Platies tested 0-0...
TODAY the Betta's water tested 0-0, BUT ... the Cory's water was 0 for Ammonia...But 0.25 for Nitrite!!!!!
How rubbish is that?????!!!

Is the Betta OK with the Platys?? I've got a new 90 litre coming tomorrow to re-home mine and a Bulldog Plec as my new additions planned for the main tank like the temp a little higher, would like to add a Betta but unsure??

well he's still hiding..but when he has ventured out he's fine with them..and they are scared of him...so all works out ok..lol :good:

That can be hit or miss. It really depends on the betta. If you try to have a betta in a community tank, I would suggest NOT a crowntail or king betta. These are known to be more aggressive. IME, I have not successfully kept a Crowntail betta with anything more than an algae eater.

I have a doubletail halfmoon that was in the community tank, but I moved him as the back of my tank is mirrored. It was temporary holding as i had an Ich outbreak (all fish are well again) and now he is in his own home.

You can try it with a betta, but have a back-up home for the betta. The platys will not bother the betta, but the betta may go after the platys.

Nitrates were up a bit this morning..so did a 50% waterchange. Now they are back down to 5ppm. Ammonia still 0 and Nitrite is still 0. Platies are still fighting for higherache. and we have a few nipped fins..Jackson is staying well out of it though thankfully x

My Corys wont eat algae wafers either, if they even so much as accidentaly suck a bit up, they'll spit it out and shoot up the other end of the tank. They definately hate the stuff.

They've taken a liking to crushed Tetra Prima mixed with a bit of crushed goldie flake though :) Bit of mini bloodworm or BBS on the weekends.

Brine shrimp, although I don't know what the extra B is for, even though I've seen it written everywhere :p

I think its baby brine shrimp...

just be sure to keep an eye on your water levels... the fact that you have no nitrates yet worries me... but keep up with the water changes and hopefully all will be fine

i do have NitrAtes..if you scroll up it says i tested and they were 50. Then a few posts down it says my NirAtes were a bit high..so i did a W/c which brought them down to 5ppm. I stated the NitrItes were 0..which is what i want. :good:

You don't need to worry about nitrates at 50 anyway. There only a problem at like 200pm
