Never thought I would say it, always found them ugly and uninteresting, how did I get so hooked?!

It all started with my 5 keyholes and tiny gold severum (who have lovely natures and get on so well) then you start looking into the whole SA family and finally gave in to my NEED for a blue acara (he is so tiny lol) and then you think wow how pretty are some of these cichlids, which ones are peaceful and which ones are naughty, you assume they are all naughty, so you research, then you realise some are pretty peaceful in the right set up/numbers, so I have been adding and adding (festivum, firemouth, geos) and I am just in love

Is there anything special that they like in a tank? I have sand substrate, strong flow rate, *some* twiggy (redmoor) wood, a bunch of crypts. Is there anything special they would like added to this tank? I would love an SA biotope (even though I have a couple of african/asian species in the tank, I'm sure they won't mind lol)

oh dear it sounds like you need more tanks!!

love them myself its just a pity the ones I;d like to keep like pikes, synspilliums etc cannnot be kept in a big peaceful community tank

 yep cichlids are indeed addictive. from day 1 of getting my 1st cichlid that was it . now the only thing that changes about the fish i keep is what type of cichlid setup i have

As SOON as I can move I will be getting a 5 x 2 x 2 and I wouldn't move into a house that doesn't have room for one lol!
Mark it's like a religion, I believe in Cichlids!!

I love cichlids :) Im moving soon and the house has to be big enough for my tank plans :D

Sounds like the tank is ideal for them :)

I love the tank in your sig, I need some twiggy wood to finish mine off

Cichlids are the best. To say you did not like any is just silly and means you just had no clue there are well over 5000 differant kinds of cichlids. I'm not suprised you have discover the wonderful world of cichlids. It was only a matter of time. So welcome to the club. As your addiction grows so do your tanks and your need for the rare cichlids.

I only have SA fish with 2 exceptions a
betta and African dwarf cichlid that looks just like a south American.. They are so pretty and have loads of personalitys.

Show us some photos if you can.

Hi, I have pics on members aquariums section, please look

Cichlids are like pringles, once you pop you cant stop!!!

I have always kept cichlids, now i have one chocolate cichlid and a pair of oscars...one electric yellow and one african blockhead juvi....

I will always have cichlids, just not how i used to, as keeping alot of larger ones in a tank leads to disaster so my plans are for a huge tank, and tell you i cannot wait to emigrate to get these plans underway, very ambitious plans i might add, lol...A huge Paludarium....Found a great thread which shows the making from start to finish and dam it is beautiful

I imagine some of you know where to find this thread. :shifty:

Tell me about it, I got into tropical fish October when I bought a Roma 125, now I have that and a 5ft tank. I will hopefully have breeding HRPs in the Roma (they've just been introduced and are getting it on I think) and a mostly SA setup in the 5ft...love em

Cichlids should be banned they are too adictive

I went from a single community tank, (not including my little boys tank) to falling in love with a firemouth, that lived with my turtle for a bit, then getting a 300l tank and getting a serv, then another, getting a 400l tank, then some texas (was suppose to be blue acara), then Ellioti then then then then................. 6 cichlid tanks later

CICHLIDS ANONYMOUS - HELP!!!

Thanks Shelagh xxx

I would love to add some Ellioti to my tank!!

They are so funny, just seen them fight over a shard of driftwood, then the biggest one got it, went HA! ate it, then went  that's not food.... and spat it out!
