Honey Gourami Really Sick

Oh THIS is interesting........I've just noticed she has a split down her tail. No red marks or blood streaks, just a split. I can only assume the amle did it :/

I'm confused though....isn't a male Honey G bullying a female virtually unheard of? Surely he'd be more concerened with breeding than bullying (if anything)?

Is your filter silent Simon?

You're right that is odd... and I think a temporary tank divider is probably a good plan. Put it in, see if she's happy enough with it (and not stressed at the confined space). Then just keep up the water changes and maybe spoil her abit with bloodworm n such :) Hopefully she'll be on the mend very soon.

@PDSimon - Yeah I lost a few straight away due to a spike from a dying filter (whilst at my boyfriends), then none for ages, then they started dying every other day (stats were 100% now but they'd stopped shedding), I switched to bottled water and eh voila, shedding and no more deaths, the I had an ammonia spike while I was at my boyfriends  typical I know... I was gone 1 night, I blame my father. They never die en mass when I'm in the house! Needless to say, the knew ones will be under no ones care but mine, and will have tescos bottled water from the beginning! Any deaths will only have myself to blame.

I can't remember if you were one of the people that looked at my pics but do you think it's possible they're both male? Either that or, like the platy, he's picking on her coz she's sick. Raaa I wish they could talk! lol

Ok, this is the one I believe to be my male

and this is the one I think is female (the sick one). Her cheeks aren't as red as the camera makes them look btw. But looking at this photo I can see how much colour she's lost (these photos were taken a while back). I know this photo isn't so good as the first one. Their fins look exactly the same to me in the tank.

Yup, male and female. And they both look a bit sickly tbh... I'd never have bought honeys that looked like that. Mine have always looked like this..

You reckon the male looks sickly? That photo is from not long after I got them. Why do you think that so I know what to look for?

Are yours natural ones?

Mine were natural variety, but even the red honeys and gold honeys I've seen have always been a similar shape to mine. Yours however seem... boney? Like you can see the entire outline of the head n such. I don't think it's anything that needs treating.

It's just that they're a bit odd to look at.

Yeah I know what you mean. I've never been able to find pics of any online that look anything like mine. It's odd isn't it?

Anyway, she's now in a little 14l hospital tank that I got from P@H earlier. To be honest she looks worse, she was sitting in the bottom(before I moved her) when I got home today. I've just put her in the hos tank so she can die in peace without being harassed if I;m brutally honest. It's not that I've given up on her but you have to be realistic. The rest may cure her (what I was hoping for) but I doubt it looking at her now.

I just hope it's not anything the others will get. Though, they'd be sick by now too prob if they were wouldn't they?

She died in the night :rip: . The top of her head and body was virtually black before I went to bed last night which I think indicates some kind of bacterial infection doesn't it?

Thanks for all your help Curiosity, I'm sure it made her last few days more comfortable. and also my water seems to be ok now so thanks for that too. I just hope what she had isn't going to be passed on to the others

Aww, sorry to hear that. Especially as you put so much effort into trying treat her.

From what I've heard I doubt whatever was up with her is infectious. Just keep an eye on the other fish. :)

Thanks. It's funny, you get paranoid don't you? I know she's dead but I've left her in her q tank for now just in case. I'd had the though of taking her out only to find she's still alive and I've made her suffer more.

Thanks Simon. TBH if you'd asked me a few weeks ago which one of my fish was the weakest and most likely to get sick I'd have said her. I'm not sure she hasn't been a little ill since I've had her.

I just really wanna get to the bottom of it so I can prevent the others getting sick.
