:good:well hello everyone!
i,m not technically a newbie but canisters are very very rare and expensive here in pakistan.
so i bought a cheap canister from a company named faunty. i dunno its some chinese company. the shopkeeper tested it in front of me . it worked fine and no leaks. :good:
so....
this is how i filled 3 trays out of 4 with media.
first of all this is the canister for my 45 gallon aquarium

these are the trays i was talking about

the media was too little for all the trays so it filled 2 trays and half of the third tray. and the fourth tray was left empty.

this is step by step how i put my trays back into the canister

did i do everything allright?
i was thinking of putting bioballs in the 2nd half of the third tray
and what would you suggest me putting in the 4th tray i was thinking of carbon
but then a question arose in my head that bacteria eat ammonia and nitrite or was it nitrate...whatever i always mix these two up.so if the carbon absorbs all of it then all of the bacteria will die??

What's the make & model of that filter? Sounds like you have it all together, I wouldn't bother with the carbon. Carbon absorbs chemicals, not bacteria, and becomes saturated in a matter of days. After that it is pretty useless, unless you want to be changing it at least once weekly. Carbon will not affect your nitrifying bacteria at all.

I would add more bio media to the empty tray.

its the latest model of a company named faunty. i know i never heard of it before too.

well i know that its the latest model of a company named faunty. i think its a chinese company.

Try stacking this way.
On the bottom layer put the open cell sponge material. On the next layer up put the finer sponge material. Next will be any granular material such a ceramic noodles etc. that you don't presently have. That wuld also be where you would put carbon if you choose to use it. In the top basket put the white polishing pad.
I have also never heard of that brand but the internals look a lot like my Marineland C-series filter. Be sure that you get the internal tubes all lined up with each other from tray to tray and oriented correctly in the filter casing. Those bits of tube are how water gets from the tank to the bottom of the filter to start its travel up through the media. At the top of the media, the impeller returns the water to the tank.

Oldman47 has a good point on the filter materials and if I were you I wouldn't leave that other tray empty either get some more sponges or fill it up with bioballs or some ceramic rings.....the filter I've never heard off before, but it looks like a rip off version of an eheim pro II filter, if it is then I would assume that the mechanics will work the same like that pump in the middle for priming and so on.....with canister filters make sure that you primed it before plugging it in cause if you don't then you'll hear some very disturbing loud noise from the filter and will damage the motor.......BTW did you buy this used or new cause normally it would come with the instructions....
