Hiding The Heater And Being Efective.

i have a nice big piece of perspex and i was planning on building something in the tank to hide the heater and possibly the filter. the downside of this that i can see is them being AS effective. any ideas my fellow fish keepers?

Jewel internal filters actually work in a similar way, I think if you can put the heater/heaters near the filter intakes the water will get warmed as it passes the through the filter and then the powerhead will blow it across the tank.

sounds like a good idea. maybe section of a rear corner with perspex and drill some holes but not too big so that my plecos or corys can get through?hide it all with some tall plants

Personally I would just use plants to hide the filter and heater, some people use cork sheeting to cover them which can work as well. Not sure how you can make sure the perspex will stay in one place without sealing it to the glass?

i should have stated something.......my beautiful golden nugget pleco has what looks like a burn mark by her dorsal fin im pretty sure its nothing else because my bn has one too. they are exactly the same and in the same place. so i figure they have been hanging out by my heater and when it went on started to burn them. i have a cover on my heater but they can still make contact. this is why i want to separate the heater and the filter at the same time

providing it does not restrict flow. this sound like a good idea.
but, personally i would heat the water, after it has been through the filter. external heaters are, ALL, made to be placed on the output side. but, my advice would be, "dont bother" and get an external filter, and heater. all you have, in the tank, then is two small tubes. as well as all the other benefits.

id love an external filter but financial circumstances really restrict what i can do. plus im turning the tank into a Paludarium so should be easy to hide the installation.

Why not get a heater guard? Its like a black sleeve that slides over the heater and sucks to the glass, people use them in ray and eel tanks all the time.

because im awkward.lol i have a cover over it now but there are gaps etc. plus id like to hide it.as said im turning it into a paludarium so should be an easy task, hopefully! lol

water looses, some of, its ability to carry O2 as its heated. the bio mass needs O2. this may have something to do with it. all i can say is, all external heaters. and those designed to fit onto externals (smart heater) fit on the outlet side.

hmm... any ideas how i can achieve this without an external filter + heater?

i thought about making an under gravel filter with some plant trays, some pvc piping and airstone. maybe i could raise the middle section, pop my heater underneath? i have a spare clearseal filter rated at 700lph i could use to drive the water through it?

any ideas would be good, even if you think there not,i could maybe use some of it
