 just noticed the pic, its absoloutly amazing, i would certainly get it if i had the correct set up for one.

I never feed my Mbuna meat...it gives them bloat, as well....I found that out the hard way!

Will things like Daphina etc be ok if I got him, not blood worm obviously...and prawns?

Tiny, tiny and i mean tiny amounts may be ok.. but always be conscious that they're very prone to bloat, otherwise you may have a death on your hands :shout:.. And i beleive many'a hobbyists have given up on them for that reason. You seem set on getting him though, good luck :good:

The fish is a Tropheus moorii.
They grow to about 5inches and come from Lake Tanganyika in Africa. They require hard alkaline water, PH 8.4-9.0, GH 400ppm. They require very good filtration because any ammonia produced in water with such a high PH will quickly kill any fish in the tank. Make sure the filters are fully developed before getting them.
Males are very territorial towards other males and they do best in groups of 10 or more, so the dominant male doesn't kill all the others.
They are true vegetarians and will not tolerate meat in their diets. They have a very long digestive tract and if you give them meat, it will rot while it is being digested and the fish will bloat up and die. Feed them on vege flakes and pellets, and various fruits & veges.
There are numerous colour forms of this fish. They are primarily black with red or yellow on their sides. Different areas around Lake Tanganyika have the different colour forms.
