Hey, I'm New Here!

Just wanting to say hello as I am new to this forum and nano. Just setting up a 14g cube which and wanted to share some pics, any suggestions and advice is appreciated. The tank has been set up for 1 week, I put in 18lbs of LR and am just waitng for the tank to cycle. Just did a few water tests and : nitrate 20ppm, nitrite 0ppm, alkalinity 300ppm, PH8.3 . Today I left the lights on for about 10hrs and noticed some bright green (algae I presume) on the LR. any recomendations for clean up crew? was thinking pepermint and blood shrimp, some sort of snails and crabs? mabye add next week? Thanks to all the members for the great pins in this section. I have learned alot since being on this site.

you could try a few snails and see how they do but i think the normal time to wait is two weeks. i duno though stealhr or skifletch should know the whole lot

to the salty side of life. pepperming shrimp or blood shrimp are great for nano tanks. In the snail category you might want to consider trochus, nassarius, cerith, and/or astrea. I'd stay away from turbos since they get a little big. Also for the crab situation, try and avoid blueleg or zebra hermits and stick to scarlets (aka mexican redlegs) as they're less aggressive and wont kill all your snails like the bluelegs do.

Hey, these are the best pics I could get of the lime green/yellow growth on the LR. Just curious if this is good or bad.

Was in my LFS today asking about a clean up crew for my 14g, what do you think of this: 10 blue leg hermits, 4 nassarius snails, 4 cerith snails,1 turbo and 1 blood shrimp. I know alot of you say don't get turbos or blue leg's. The guy I was talking to runs several nano's and says he uses both? any thoughts?

Sorry...1 more question, I left in the bioballs that came with the cube and the carbon filter. Should I take these out and replace with LR pieces?. I keep up on tank maintance and proper cleanining so I figured they would be ok?

Yeah, remove the bioballs. Its better to run carbon or rowaphose, or another Phosphate removing product than bioballs, or LR rubble too. :good:

Agreed, if you're in the UK and you can get it, use rowaphos, that stuff rocks. If you've read my posts you'll know I'm not a fan of bluelegs, and if I had it to do all over again I'd use redlegs or electric blues only.
