Very interesting statement.
...is this sarcasm?

I for one do not totally agree with those author's statements but it is true that established nems can be hardy. The vast majority of nem deaths are sustained in the first months after collection.

Why do people always think im being sarcastic? Not at all, I really do think that's interesting. I always think of my nem as the most sensitive and most likely thing to die in the tank...for instance when I get a coral or a fish I think "man...when that thing grows up it's going to look amazing" buuuut with my nem everyday I walk downstairs it's like "holy @&*# it's still alive!" I do take pretty damn fine care of that thing though. I got it off ebay for $5 +shipping...wasnt expecting much...but now it's about the size of a basket ball. It's found it's way to a huge chunk of LR and planted itself right on the tip of the top so it's able to open up into a full "ball" of deep purple tentacles. I'll put a picture up sometime, it really is beautiful.

So I did a nice sized water change today. Clown is still healthy looking, still hanging out by the intakes. I did some small aqua-scaping today and flipped over a big chunk of dead galaxia (was taken over by algae) to find the bottom of the rock has all kinds of weird stuff going on. Big slimey pink growths and little branchy blue/purple growths...dunno what it could be as it has never been exposed to light.

I decided to wait on the kick-ich. I'll apply it once I see a spot or ANY sign of infection. I'm setting up a QT tonight in the event of anything serious happening. I really like this little guy. Actually...here's some pics just for the heck of it...

Yeah, unfortunately I do the same thing.

Really awesome tank you have there. The anemone really is nice. You say you got it off eBay? What seller?

haha, the biocube was my first saltwater tank...that ended in disaster, that is actually where I got my will of steel...after killing two clowns, a long tentacle nem, several species of coral, a coral beauty angel, countless hermits, three monkey shrimp, a coral banded...god the death toll goes on. I was so anxious to have a beautiful show-worthy bio reef that I overstocked and jumped the gun time and time again...ugh. Terrible memories. Anyways, let it be known that from experience all new-comers to the world of saltwater and reef keeping...START WITH A BIG TANK AND BE PATIENT. That's ALL it takes to be successful.

Well, we all screw up sometimes... I hope it goes better for you this time. What will the stocking consist of?

thus far...sand and a rock :) I dont think I'll have any fish...but if I do then it will be something nifty and species only...I was thinking of maybe dwarf seahorses or a mantis but I'll need to do a lot of research first. Until then it's going to be maturing and I'll probably try to get some neat macros growing in there. I also have some corals I could frag to chunk in there for the hell of it as well.

yeah...but it's setup in the bedroom...my girlfriend would kill me if there was a creepy crawly in the tank I promised her I'd put something cute in hah.

I have read that dwarf seahorses are exeptionally easy to care for as long as one provides the right food. Also you could stock a fair amount in that tank, up to fifteen by some sources.
