We are vey new to Cichild keeping but have kept many fish over the years. About 2 weeks ago one of our keyholes caught cotton mouth and with treatment and quarantine still died. About a week later another small keyhole got fin rot and he passed away. My partner did a good water change on friday and everthing seemed fine. All water levels nitrates amonia were deemed at normall levels but we woke up today and a white film was on top of the tank and all our fish bar one who is currently dying is left. We had some beautiful fish( and had got ver attached) and are not sure what we have done wrong. The water had the white film at the top but this seemed a bit of a water seemed greasey.

The filter seems to be pushing out new water but am unsure this is working because of what happened. We are doing a massive water change and and was going to but in some live bacteria/ stabilty but REALLY NEED YOUR HELP!

WE ARE SO GUTTED PLEASE RESPOND WITH ADVICE!

Dont know what the white stuff is but i would do a 50% waterchange today and repeat again tomorrow..

Are all your water stats still ok?

May be helpful to know what the stats are/were of your water. Also your stocking, filtration and WC regime.

the greasy film on the water isnt neccessarily bad. i get it on my tank, it doesnt really cause any harm, its just unsightly

Did any fish show signs of gasping or darting around the tank.
Has any chemical gotten into the tank.
Have you been using any sprays near the tank.
Used any outdated food.

Sometimes I used to get a thin layer of film over my Betta fish tank, the reason being was because their wasn't enough water movement to break it up. Is the filter working alright?

The cloudy water is probably due to an ammonia/nitrite spike. Buy some ammo-lock, and if you can get some mature filter media, anything that comes in a bottle isn't going to work...

The fish where probably very stressed out, thus more susceptible to disease.

I suggest reading up on the fishless cycle for next time.
