Help With Wood/branches

Hi. In the process of scaping a new tank and need some thin branches to go in it. Ive bought from shops and website before but think its a bit daft paying thirty quid for something that i can find right outside my door in abundance (live around the new forest). Has anyone experiance of using wood/beaches they have found,specifically is it best to use living wood from the branch or dead wood that has dropped? Does it need to be dried or put in the oven (for example), does it need de-barking?

Advice would be great!

I never buy wood from the shops or rocks, I use Dry Wood, and if i find any live wood i take it and put it in the oven, And always remove the bark, You will need to boil it too, It should be fine but be careful, and yea its like £20 in the uk for a small piece of driftwood, I just make the wood in the garden look like drift wood.

EDIT: Soak it in water for 2 - 3 days for all the tannis acid to come out as it will lower your PH although it cannot do much harm to your fish.

Use a trash can (The big black ones) and keep adding boiled water from the kettle. you may want to scrub it a little too.

I was just searching the web to see if i could add some really nice rocks but they were kinda full of blue stuff and rust from some metal that was on top i know i can't put them in but i was looking for something to remove it and i found this website that would help you: http/www.ratemyfishtank.com/articles/101
