Today is the 3. day that my platy rests on the bottom of the tank. She had fry 3 times in the past 8 weeks, maybe that just wore her out. But I also read that it could be constipation. My book recommends magnesium sulfate. How does that affect the other fish since I don't have an extra tank to separate her (the babies are in my extra tank). Would that really help? Is there anything else that you recommend? I already did a mayor water change (90 %), just in case it would be the water (even though the water test didn't show anythig bad), but that didn't help.

hey, am not an expert so i would wait for somemore opinions but, my platy has recently starting doing that but i know she is pregnant because SHE IS REALLY FAT .. looks like another 40fry for me !
.. she looks like she is due anyday now.. as i can see through her skin and she has nerly turned all black on her belly .. Am not sure whats up with yours though. how long ago was it when she had her fry? how often do you keep the light on?.. do you have males in your tank? if so do they chase her alot.. and you sure she is not pregnant again?
.. if she gets chased alot she just could be tired.. or if you have the lights on alot she might not be able to get any rest.. but like i say am not sure so wait for more advice, Leann
The lights are on for about 10 -12 hours.
I have only 2 females in the tank, no males (I will add some of the babies, when they are bigger).
I don't think she is pregnant again, because she is skinny since she had the last once. Before that she was very fat. And you are right, she was on the bottom before she had the babies, but not for three days. Good luck with your fry! They are so cute.

Check for marking on her which could lead to sypmtoms,: swollen eyes, white spots, rugged fin edgesm skin damagem very fine gold spotsm slime patches, white spots.
does she have rapid gill movements? if so she might have parasites or a bacterial infection

And what do I do in that case??? She doesn't have any of the above symptoms. She has some black spots on top of her back that I'm not sure if she had that before or not, my other platy doesn't have that. But she also seems not to swim the right way. always kind of head up.

Ussually (but im not expert) but the black spots on fishes back ussually mean burn wounds from ammonia spikes

Try and lower the time on the lights, that might cause acess alege growth. try and aim for 7-8 hours.

. . I have already got 50 baby's from various platy's that i have and they are soooo cute 
.. I cannot wait till my new set up matues and i can put the old fish in my new 90L and keep my baby fish in the little tank. And yer you should look out incase she has an infection.. i had an outbreak last month of Ich they had little white dot's on them like sand or salt was sprinkled on them..The water is usually good. I clean the tank once a week and do a 30 % water change, no visible algae. yesterday I even did a 90 % change because of the platy. It could be that I fed too much. I give a little less since yesterday. I don't have snails. I have 2 platys, 4 neon tetras and 2 plecos in the tank. If it is ammonia burn, how would I fix that?

If you think she's just constipated you could feed her some mashed pea. Here's a quote from TFF's resident fishhealth expert, Wilder:
