I read that corys like a really soft bottom.

Hehe

I've always wondered about how you go about cleaning a mixed substrate tank bottom... Surely the gravel vac would mix everything up...?

Yeah thats the issue I'm thinking of. Maybe I could use some really fine gravel instead of sand. Part coarse gravel then part fine gravel. Once my holiday is out of the way I'llstart taking a serious look at it. I usually come back with some holiday money too, as unlike the wife I don't turn into a raging alcoholic once the plane touches the tarmac lol.

John.

I have got one of the green/white plants as well...............all its done is get mouldy and black-never grown!
from all the notes I have read should I take this out?
i dont understand why LFs sell plants that are not tropical.

To help my plants grow Ive just bought the tetra C02 kit..........I have had problems trying to get plants to grow,so will see if this helps.
has anybody else used this Tetra process?

Thanks

Hey Ozzy my mum used to work at Epworth she taught at a school. Edward Sherian? something like that.

I'm going to take that plant out. I recon the basically sell them so when they rot and die you go back and buy more.

From what I've read they are terarium plants.

I've not used the Tetra C02 kit you have but let us know how it performs. It may be something I invest in.

If you can take a summer hike and follow a freshwater stream to where its relatively undisturbed, you can sometimes find bottom pebbles (sand/gravel varying completely in size) that has been very much smoothed over by the constant water movement. Just scoop this stuff up and haul it out. Rinse thoroughly. This is what cories really love.

Hey Jon,my wee boy has a two foot tank in his room which just has playsand in,no nutritious substrate,I'll see if I can dig an early pic out of it.
The plants are doing great,it looks lush and healthy and strangely some of the plants seem to do better in this tank than the one in my living room which has laterite, topped with eco complete. And the cories do love sand.
In it I have Java ferns,Windelov fern, two different anubias, java moss,Xmas moss,Hygrophila polysperma (spelling?),fissidens fotanus,a mystery plant that grew off a tiny piece of root which I think is some sort of dwarf valis and recently added crypt wendtii.
