It is a paradise fish... But what is causing the cuts?

i have no idea im more of a tetra and betta and gourami kind keeper lol
i have no idea im more of a tetra and betta and gourami kind keeper lol There really isn't anything in the tank that is sharp, there is a heater, a filter, the tubes for an external filter, 2 aquarium decorations to make hidey holes out of, plants and bogwood - which he is never near.
His tank mates are two angels and 6 mollys so I cannot see how they would be doing it they are all really placid fish.

That really looks rough. I really don't know a whole lot about fish disease but I just got through a bacterial problem with my gourami. I know now that any open would like that can be a bacterial infection quick. I would try to isolate it and treat with something to atleast help prevent infection.
I used melafix (half the recommended dose) and my fish are showing improvement.

I cannot really isolate I only have the one tank, the only thing I could do on the basis he is a paradise fish is put in him in glass bowl but I am not really keen on that idea either
I was told not to use melafix as it can drown labyrinth breathers? I have ordered stresscoat (no one stocks it) and been adding the water conditioner I do have as it is meant to help protect scales and fins from trauma, he had one initially and I assumed it was heater burn but now more are appearing its really worrying me. He is still eating and comes out and gets quite worked up over food then retreats into a corner. I really want to make him better he is a lovely fish!
Looks like the start of ulcers, same/similar as the dwarf gouramis get.
I had a whole batch in recently and about 5 of them had this, i treated them with a medication generally aimed at pond fish called Chloromin T. Instead of treating them as per instructions for pond fish, i made the solution up in a bucket and dipped them for 30-40 seconds.
Two days later i treated with MFA (Waterlife Myxazin is the closest you will find!).
Seems to have done the trick! If it is the same thing, i have never been able to cure paradise fish of it before, not by the time the wounds are clear enough to see like that... but this did the trick!

Okay thank you, when you say dip to you mean put them in a net and put them into the bucket?
In all honesty, do you think he will die?
Does this happen often with these fish then?
It does seem like they are prone to it, but i see so many fish that maybe the percentage i see of paradise fish with ulcers is lower than it seems...

When i say dip, it was literal, i dont take them out the net, i just use a larger net and rest them in it for 30 seconds and then back to the tank.

He is dying I think he is beyond any help now. I am utterly gutted. He is sitting in the corner of the tank not moving, I put flakes right in front of him and he wasn't interested at all. How can I avoid this again? What if I treat a fish as soon as I buy it?
