Mesh would work well - but just remember to get something to cover the bulbs other wise the light will just go everywhere. Like a lamp with no shade

Yep those would be perfect for what you want I meant if you were to just get a bulb set up.

ok so ive contacted Juwel about the brace bars heres what they said:

Thank you for your e-mail which has been forwarded to us by our offices in Germany.

The brace bars are not a major structural part of the aquarium so the aquarium will not burst or give way, but they do hold the shape of the aquarium so without them the aquarium may start to bow slightly. The brace bars are available as a replacement item.

The brace bar on my fluval vicenza is a pain when catching fish as it's right in the middle, but i wouldn't want to be without it. lol.

Yeah not a chance, I wouldnt put any water in it without a brace bar (or two) - think of them like a roof on a building it holds all 4 rigid.

they do hold the shape of the aquarium so without them the aquarium may start to bow slightly.

I am amazed that they can actually say that in the same sentence as it will not damage the tank. Basically if the glass starts to bow its because of the build up in pressure on the pane of glass and eventually that glass is going to snap. No matter how well made a tank is the amount of pressure in them is incredible especially up at 400/500 liters its a hell of a job to ask of the materials.

I would get the replacements on there before you fill it with water.

I wonder what their reply would be when you sent them an email saying it burst all over the living room so here is a bill for X amount for new flooring, furniture and a fish tank...

I would fit them mate, it will be worth it just for the piece of mind.
