omg, i noticed the filter on jambos tank was off since yesterday, i turned it on about 40 mins ago and it went all "smokey" so i was letting it clear ,and it has very well, but 1 of my clown loaches is dead literally turned over and died about 5 mins ago, the other one is in the krib tank and jambos not well.. im in the middle of emptying the tank- wont come out bloody fast enough, have been vigurously stirring the water..

oh if i lose him im done for

the water smells, strange. i cant think what it maybe ,nothing been added, everything was perfect an hour ago

.

I recently lost my betta sorority to something that I couldn't find in a short time. When I started to break the tank down to clean it I found the compact fluorescent light had a ruined ballast and it had burned up and dripped potting material into the water. Problem solved for me but it made it even more imperative to scrub out the tank and its fixtures.
Your bad smell reminded me of it. Mine smelled really foul.

if the filter was off for sometime, as you say, then the good bacteria will have died and bad bacteria will enter the tank, it may be that is what you are seeing in the tank (cloudy, milky) water?

oh no its not that t literally shot out of the outlet pipe.. thus i assumed it was algae

In the time your filter went off, your bacteria in the filter died. I think the "cloudiness" and smell is most likely from the bacteria in the filter going foul. This means, IME that your tank will at least have to go through a mini cycle!

My advice... Try and go find used filter media ASAP and replace the one you have. You don't have time to wait through the cycle.

i have another filter no worries there.. i must have been a b*tch in a previous life for this to happen..if jambo goes ill never forgive myself for this

Aww its not your fault hun, with all your tanks Im not suprised you occasionally forget to turn something on/off. But Im sure Jambo will be fine, from what I remember you've had teeny panics with his tank before- (think hose pipes etc from previous thread!).
Keep draining the water and add filter media from another tank, then add clean dechlorinated water.
Keep us updated and good luck,
Bec xx

jambos looking ok, if not a bit grumpy..i have emptied 80% and topped it back up to 50,ill give him a while then do it again.. i only turned the plugs off beacause there was a fire on the extension lead last night in the kitchen and it tripped all the electric-really thought i had put everything back in
