Help Please, Out Of Control Fungus

I spoke too soon, i came home last night to find it hanging from his pectorals, and now my red one Inferno who is in a seperate tank now has it. I'm getting so frustrated, my crowntail at home never experiences these problems that these two have

It is always important to use separate equipment on fish that are sick. Most deseases are contagious, and columnaris is very contagious. Keep a container of 10% bleach solution handy to steralize, and boil what can be. Are the stringy things for sure shed parts of Hurley and not parasites?

I do often use Maroxy with the Mardel antibacterials. Very often there are primary and secondary infections of bacteria and fungus.

Yeah i'm sure they're not parasites because they are there one instant and then gone the next. We thought we did pretty well at make sure there was no cross contamination but i guess not well enough. I try so hard cuz i love these little guys but i'm getting very frustrated, i'll keep up with the maracyn and see what happens. Thank you for the bleach idea I will use that. I cant wait to get past the noobie stage as a fish owner.

Sorry, that stage never comes.

I really have not seen the kind of flesh loss you are describing with columnaris. I have with fin rot. But the treatment should work for either. Thing with columnaris--well all of them--is fungus can also be involved--secondary infections. So I now include Maroxy with the other Mardel antibiotic/s that I am treating with. Mardel says it is alright to do. I keep it along with CopperSafe and a variety of Mardel antibiotics on hand.

Yeah, the fin rot is under control it's just this columanris. Can Jungle Fungus Eliminator be used

I use and have Jungle fungus products. I have mixed Mardel and Jungle, but I prefer to stay in the same producers using their recommendations--less likely to run into chemical conflicts. Also some of the jungle products already contain anti bacterial for secondary infections.

sorry to keep you occupied, but is it possible that my "petco" bettas are simply alot less healthier than ones from a breeder would be? I have been checking my water parameters and they are all good, and do weekly water changes, i dont get what the problem is

It's really hard to say. It probably depends on the amount of inbreeding and any breeder could do that.

I just got a nice VT from my local LPS. They are pretty good and try hard. But I went in a week later and found them treating their latest delivery for fin rot. They say it happened after I got mine, but my boy has started showing some shredding. I started treating him yesterday with Maracyn Plus. I will do a couple of treatments with that. If that doesn't get it, I will do something more aggressive.

It is just as possible that a fish can come from an expensive line and develop something. The stress gets their immune system down. That is why it is always advised that new fish be quarantined.

Knowing your breeder helps, but it is not a guarantee. Fish are more sensitive than dogs and cats. It is a hobby full of heartache and exaltation. I have quit Bettas many times. But here I am still.

I hear you, my heart sinks when i see another little white string coming from a fin, it's mostly on one of his pectoral fins, just one little white string, and then on the other fish it's one little white string on his dorsal. The top of water looks so nasty it's like this white filmy stuff, not so much the white cottony stuff anymore
