Help. My Large Red Male Jewel Not Looking Crash Hot I Think.

i dont think bashing him is possible. hes held his own every other time befor. and he's twice her size. as theyr established breeder pair, they r used to mouthfighting etc,

well he's still in the bucket till i see fit for him to go back into the tank. my only problem now is getting him to eat again. he's a big burly fish so i guess he's got quit a store but yeah hes still no at the stage where you would class him as being able to jump out! still quiet and stable as apposed to most of yesterday where he was tumbling and upside down for close to a day.

his balance as apposed to yesterday is exceptional and he has no problem at all now. the only difference is he's alot less active then he used to be but probably whatever he is fighting

How are his red spots and red blemish are they still there.
Is his eye still bulging out, as to me he still needs treating with a bacterial med.

well im not sure if its bulging out or whether its just how his eye normally looks. to be honest its not like pop eye ive seen and you would expect it to be more protruding but i will watch it, atm its just more like maybe the eye lense which threw me off because i cant see any of the behind the eye just the normal parts youd usually see. the blemish on one side of his skin is starting to heal over, so this may have been the culprite all along! but it is healing over now as ive noted a 50% recover of skin on the area. there are still from what i can see red pin prick dots on his lips!

If he still have the red dots he needs treating.
Garlic helps stimulate there appitite.

treating yes, but what to treat with is the one thing causing me problem!

what like some cuts of a clove or u mean like garlic spread?

Yes you just soak there food in garlic juice, it also boost there immune system.

mm well i work in a grocery store and never seen garlic juice. all we stock is lemon juice. will rubbing it in minced garlic do the job???

ok so OXYTETRACYCLINE will require me to go to the vet which will probably cost me over 150+$ so i might try a diluted one called aquacycline which is the same stuff and see how that goes! there was something else there to i might check out. damn things r so expensive a tub of the 2 they had were like 50$ each for a small tub

Not sure about the mince garlic.
How he doing now?

he's going good guns m8. im doing water changes in the bucket every 2hours and adding half a tablet of tri sulfa tablet which i was recomended at the fish shop as being aquacycline or whatever just smaller bottle. he's swimmin round. not eating yet but that could take several days! we dont have garlic juice here in aus it would seem or not here in newcastle anyway so would soaking it in the juices of minced garlic do the trick???

on a lighter note it has become aparent 2 of my young jewels have paired up and are currently digging a pit out which theyll hopefully spawn in, im not sure whether i should help whether theyll lay on the flat glass or on the gravel. if on the glass theyll probably be there for a couple of weeks digging it out thats all! i got a fair bit of gravel in the tank.

the guys at the LFS were pretty amazed that i had been able to turn him around from how he was yesterday and deff congrated on the dedication. which remindes me i need to catch up on the sleep which i got none of last night /yawn

tell you what. one of the best fish shops in aus. all about fish. growing rapidly but all the workers know each member and will always help with anyting :)

ok so ive done a further 24hrs in a bucket using aquacycline. he is still pretty pale and has the small red pinpricks on his lips and not eating so im going to make anouther bucket of fresh water up and put anouther half tablet of aquacycline for him befor i go to work. hes very much alive and moving around in the big tank but he has had a talyer of small air bubbles form from mouth to tail on the bottom of his body, what is this? does anyone know why this is happenin?

they seem to be going away, im guessing this is goo?

because he still has the red lips and i can still just make out the blemish do you think anouther 24hrs in the bucket with aquacycline will help?

Small bubbles on fish can be to much aeration in the tank, can be a signs of parasites especially whitespot about to break out.
Bubbles bemeath the skin is gas bubble desease.

hey, nahh all good guys. i have 2 air stones and the bubbles were from him swimming over the stone. he's doing great. eating and swimming and getting his colour back! i think theres still a little of the red pin prick type dots on his bottom lip on one side but they seem to be going away so im putting this down to him recovering! well seems my own hospital bucket technique worked a treat :). im so cheering and proud but shiz it was hard and stressfull keeping him alive! im quit enjoying this whole fish recover experience though although still wont be out of the clear for a few weeks yet i think! only been 3 or 4 days since the incident!

oh btw 2 of my small red forest jewels. like real small, have dug a pit and have paired up during this time YEYE. i think theyr to small to breed yet but heres hoping. im thinking after all its the femal which goes dark red instead of the male as the one that is still pinkish is chasing everything away from the deep red one! and the pit which sadly happened to be behind the driftwood anubis creating my 10 yellow labs called home!

Glad he's on the mend well done.
