Help Finding A New Tank Light!

Hi,
I have phoned Aldi head office (08444068800) and spoke to customer services and put in touch with a lady called Lyn whose it is to sort out these kind of problems, she was very helpful and is looking into it. Her number is 01506 6573079 and she will be back at work on Monday.
I advise you to contact her asap and hopefully we can get a result!
I will keep you informed if i get anymore news.
The people at Pennine are a bunch of liars and even admitted that the other people i spoke to actually lied and they didn't have a clue when the lights would be in stock!

I have had four of these lights fail within six weeks. The first three were kindly replaced by Aldi but the last one was a replacement direct from Pennine... it lasted less than a week.
I have phoned Pennine today and have been told they wont be getting any more stock for ten days.
After having a rant at the guy on the other end of the phone, I received an apology and he admitted that he was embarrassed. He also informed me that I would be sent another light when they come in.
I have lost all confidence with Pennine and have just ordered some LED light strips from aquariumledlighting.co.uk. These use suction pads to attach the light to the lid and may be the answer to anyone else who have given up on Pennine.

Hi, Sorry to hear about your light problems (join the club) LoL the LED lights you mention are they the ones at £56.00? Phew that's more than the tank cost originally?
When we 1st contacted Aldi regarding this problem they said if we don't get anything sorted with Pennine then we may have to get a complete new hood/lights and send reciept to Aldi and they would refund the money, it might be worth you mentioning this to Aldi and see if they say the same to you?
Its a complete farce and hopefully will be sorted soon either way.

I've seen lights very similar to that in Pets at Home. Dunno if they will fit your model though

Hi had the same problem light lasted about a week, i bought a waterhome 3 light from ebay for £7 and made a little bracket to use excisting holes very easy to do.

yeah P@H have some cheap LED's at the min, you do need a few though.

Right I have an update....still not resolved yet though.

I left it 2 weeks, and then I’ve just been on a 2 week holiday so it's been a while and still no light. I just called Pennine and the guy said they scrapped the previous bath and now have a completely new light IN STOCK.

The new light (as mentioned above) does not fit the original hood, so all those who ordered a new light will receive a NEW HOOD AND LIGHT within a week. They will be put together and posted over the next 2 days...so should have it this week or next.

The guy seemed friendly and apologetic. I suppose in all fairness to them, it's the manufacturers fault and not theirs. So at least they have scrapped the old one altogether now. Maybe the new one will be a sort that we can pick replacements up for from any aquatic centre? Unlike the last one that wasn't found anywhere else!

With regards to Aldi, although they supplied these to us, they are a good company and any complaint sent to their head office is always looked into personally by an individual. I sent a complaint once about an electrical product and the outcome and service from them was great!

Hopefully we will all be sorted soon. I've just bought a bunch of cool fish for the tank now and it's looking great. It is lit up because I managed to get one more light from Aldi sent in from another store. The only reason it still works is because I haven't dared turn the switch off because I know it won't turn back on again! lol

I received my replacement hood/lamp today and its not good news!

The hood is the same as before but they have drilled a hole in the back and fitted a 12 volt 15 watt incandescent bulb.

The output from this bulb will be insufficient to light a tank of this size and being at the back it will not illuminate the tank properly.

Fortunately I had already taken pix1's advice:

and fitted a waterhome 3 fitting ( held in place by a couple of cable ties) and so will not need use this one from Pennine!

Recieved my replacement hood/light from pennine today and apart from the fact the light isn't bright enough to light the tank up i'm not happy regarding the type of light fitting. Its a 12v 15w bayonet fitting mounted at the back on its side so the condensation in the hood runs into the light fitting? surely this isn't safe?
Can anyone confirm this before i get electricuted and worse still kill all my fish!
Am i correct that the light needs to be a sealed unit for tropical fish tanks due to condensation?
What a farce maybe one day i will get to see my fish LoL

Hi, thanks for all replies and posts to my previous email also.

Received my replacement hood today and VERY disappointed. Had exactly same concerns re condensation and light fitting. Also aren't we meant to be buying the energy saving bulbs now, so these bulbs won't be available in the long term future?

Its a rubbish quick fix and I'm really disappointed. The light isn't bright enough, and glows a murky yellow colour. My 13 year old son bought this set with his own christmas money but I'm now going to have to fork out to sort this out so that it looks decent in the front room.

Aldi sent me a £5 shopping voucher as a token of goodwill, all very nice but can't buy fish tank lights there can I?

If anyone has an address can they please pass it on so I can put in a formal complaint please. I have written to Aldi so will see what their response will be....

I also bought one of these tanks and the light failed on me too!

After a wait of about a month Pennine supplied another lamp which they say was from a batch they had flown in as the regular supply route was taking too long.
This one lasted less time than the first!!

Am awaiting another, but this one was supplied with a note from their Managing Director, Mark Seddon and the address is:

That is ridiculous!

I’m pretty young and inexperienced with electronic stuff, but as you said, I’m pretty sure that is unsafe! it has to be a complete sealed unit. The bubbles from my pump and air stone also spray splashes up into my hood so I can imagine mine tripping even sooner!

Surely the people at Pennine can't be that incompetent to be sending out a hood with a standard bayonet light fitting drilled into the back!?!?!?!?

If/When I receive mine, I’ll be calling Aldi H/O straight away. They'll be able to put a lot more pressure on Pennine than me, a single customer could do.
