Sorry it's been a while for me to come back with this update.
I wrote my letter to Aldi head office. In return i was fully refunded for the light i purchased elsewhere and i got a £10 goodwill voucher to use in store. So thumbs up to Aldi. It's just Pennine that are the bad guys here. Aldi said they will continue to monitor....
A friend finally got a working light from Pennine the other week, so hopefully the rest of you will do too? It took him a long time to get it though. He even waited for a light to come from a batch which Pennine said they were not going to send out until they have personally tested them for a week. Well the "fully tested" light came and only lit up an inch along the tube before blowing, lol.
If i were you, if you still haven't got a light i would purchase an aquarium light starter kit from an aquatics centre. The one i purchased is the full length of the hood so it fully lights up the tank. The bulb is removable and the power/starter is completely seperate on the outside of the tank. It came with all fixtures for fitting to the hood and is amazing compared to the Pennine light. Plus when the bulb eventually needs changing due to old age, i can pick up a bulb from anywhere unlike the pennine light.
I did have another issue....my tank started leaking around the top plastic rim thing!! completely destroyed the table it was on as this bubbled. The tank also buckled so the lid did not sit right? To my surprise a replacement tank was sent to me within a week and looks great now! of course, after a little chat with Pennine 1st with them telling me to swap it at the store, even though it's over 30 days? Then they said "well we don't normally post tanks out as they get broken", even though you can buy tanks from their website and have them delivered?!?!?!? PENNINE ARE JUST FULL OF LIES!!!! They have a 3 year warranty to fulfil they can't just say "well we don't normally send them". It's like from the very start, if they had said how long the wait for a working light was, it would have been much better than saying we will post it tommorow and then when you call 2 weeks later to chase they still don't have them in stock?
Anyway.....mine is all working now so rant over
Good luck all
