Help Catching My Danios!

Hi,

Im trying to catch my danios to give back to my LFS as im fully stocked and want some different fish. Ive tried on 2 occasions now with zero success. Method im using is with a large net and trying to tempt them with food. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! I think it is actually impossible! There soooo fast its just not going to happen.

Anyone got any ideas? Had any success with this.

Try using two nets. Hold one still and guide the fish in to it with the other.

remove half the water from the tank, this halves their escape routes and try using 2 nets its a whole lot easier. also removing the tank water means adding another 50% so that covers your water change at the same time

the easiest way i have found is to just rest the net in the top of the water and let them swim in it

trust me it works if you got chasing them with 2 nets they get aware and get faster

I had to do this last night while i emptied my tank out to clean. Moved 40 fish to a small tank to clean my big tank, took me around 20 minutes to get all fish ! Danios and rummynose tetras are a ***** to get! Just chase em till they get knackered!

this is the best way to stress a fish out to the max, chasing them around until they are so tired that they cant escape........ your asking for trouble!

all you need to do is lower the water level and with 2 nets gently guide them into 1, its not hard and catching fish isnt easy but chasing them is a no no

i had the same problem a few years back, and i found that danios do not tire, but since learning more and more about fish i agree, 2 nets and do not chase fish, it is very stressfull and is not fair on them

Yep, danios are a pain to catch. I first of all take out all the decor and then use one net and approach them from behind. It takes a lot of patience and some skill though.

thanks guys,

i was trying this for at least an hour on sunday, problem is i could physically see the other fish getting stressed to the max, especially the rummy noses.

Danios were definately not getting tired and lost all feeling in my right arm.

Big operation coming up at the weekend. Will take out all decor, empty 50% water and using the 2 net method, fingers crossed!!
