Help a N00B?

Good evening all!

Firstly, if I am asking a really stupid question - I apologise.

I am brand new to fish keeping and want to make sure that I do enough research first so not to put any fish in danger/kill them!

I have been given a small tank that has a water capacity of 15litres. I appreciate that this is a small tank and that I will need to clean it more often, but due to space this is ideal for me. Hopefully, in the future, I will get a bigger and better aquarium.

The tank its self is 12 inches long, 9 inches wide and 9 inches in depth.

I am thinking I'd like to keep a few cherry shrimp and maybe a betta fish?

I guess what I want to know is, will this work? Whats the best way to get started?

I am going to look at fishless cycling in the next week or two so really, ANY advice would be greatly appreciated.

bettas, or any fish really. need a minimum of 5 gallons. so I would say just have cherry shrimp, and a planted tank. with stable parameters, which you need to find out and a cycled tank. bettas will kill cherry shrimp so there a no no

There are other types of shrimp too which depending on your water parameters might be better suited.

You'd be surprised how interesting a shrimp tank can be. Plant it up and the learning and options will never stop. You can even mix some shrimp species together without the worry of interbreeding. Cherry shrimp are neocaridina shrimp, but you could also keep caridina shrimp, like tiger shrimp and crystal reds.

I also keep shrimp like amanos and flower/bamboo shrimp, but these guys get very large, especially the flower shrimp. And they don't reproduce in freshwater.
