Hello, What To Do?

Hiya im new to the forum and I have a question... I have one danio (ik they are schooling fish...) He does great with cat fish, would he school with my ottos in another tank and put my betta in my 10g tank, my danio survived a heater malfunction in the middle of winter.... It gets super cold where i am and i got a new heater... So my final questions is, Would he be happy with my ottos? Would my betta do good in the 10 gallon? or would he be lonely? or should i put all the fish in one tank? i think the danio will rip his fins clean off Thank you for responding

What danio species is it? Some actually do a lot better in sub-tropical temps of ~18C, rather than the traditional ~25C for many fish.

A single danio is likely to be much more aggressive with any tankmates, as it naturally in a group of say 6+ will always be trying to maintain or improve its rank in the group. I have a single Pearl Danio (injured, lost its tail fin completely this week somehow) with my Filament Glassfish and it sometimes tries to chase off the glassfish, although the healthy glassfish are far too quick for "Mr Stumpy" (as he has affectionately been called this week by my better half)!

What are the sizes of your different tanks? You mention a 10g but not the other tank.

You might be able to put your Betta with the Otos in one tank, but I'd be wary of adding a single Danio. I'd be thinking of getting the danio some new same species friends (5 minimum), or find someone locally who can add your singleton to a nice sized group.

Just like to add that 'back in the day' I had a Betta boy with a couple of Ottos in a 34lt and all was fine. I eventually moved the Ottos into my larger tank and put in a 6 shoal of Pygmy Corys. I supplied a nice cave halfway up the tank for the Betta to have and the cory loved the sand. It was also planted.

They lived superbly well together and the Betta seemed to enjoy a 15 second herding of the Cory once in a while but never made contact (half hearted I'm guessing!)

I had 6 Long finned, Leopard Danios in my large community tank and couldn't possibly imagine even one of them in a small tank with a Betta

You would gain more pleasure from adding danios as they look so much better in a group, they are great fish very active and look stunning when morning light hits them and you see their natural colours and markings

Thank you guys! My other tank is 5 gallons and my other kind of danio is a zebra danioi think ill put the danio in the 5 gallon and put my pleco and betta in the 10 gallon how about that?

Actuly i want to put my ottos (not plecos sorry) with my danio i am cleaning the tank and i am going to empty it clean gravel put the betta in the 10 gallon and just put the danio in with my ottos PLEASE RESPOND IF THIS IS OK!

Temporarily, the Zebra Danio would be better in the longer tank, presumeably the 10g. Ideally it needs a 3-foot long tank, they are very active for little fish. If you want to keep the Otos with him/her, keep a close eye on things, as a single danio is much more likely to nip at tankmates.

The Betta will be fine for now in the 5g.

In an ideal world, the Betta would go in the 10g and you would you buy another 5+ Zebra Danios plus a longer tank for the group.

The water is very cloudy after i was changing gravel so i am puting the danio in the 5g with the plecos and then when the water clears up i am going to put my betta in, my danio LOVES and i mean LOVES the new tank
