Hi all,

I was just wondering if there was a formula for how many watts of heater per 10 litres?

So for a tank thats going to be roughly 1100 liters i'll need 1100 watts of heater.

Is that even possible?

I prefer externals and the biggest of those i've seen is 300 watts even if I used one on each filter i'm going to use I would not even be close.

Never heard of an internal heater above 500W, not sure about external though.

It's fine to have multiple heaters, as long as the wattage adds up.

Yep, I'd personally buy four 300W heaters, possibly more depending upon how well insulated the tank's location is. I've had "mixed bag" success with Rena Smart Heaters, one has a well calibrated thermostat, the other gets +3C than the setting. Next purchase will be a Visitherm for sure, such as http/www.aquacadabra.co.uk/VisiTherm-300W.html

The 300w hydor eth 300 externals i've used before are amazing have 3 and according to my thermometers they are always spot on re temp not even half a degree out.

Would I be putting to much stress on them and shortening the working life?

if got hydor eth 300's on other tanks they're amazingly good.

bigger tanks have a better surface area/volume ratio so don't need as many watts per gallon as smaller tanks as they lose less heat (a smaller percentage of the water is in "contact" with the outside air if you see what I mean). I would have thought 2x 300 watt hydors would be ok.
