I have just got a juwel vision 450 and it came with a 300w heater. but i have just read this book and it said two heaters for a big tank one either end.

and it said that you need 10w per gallon, and my tank is 98 gallons so do i need another heater or am i just reading the wrong book.

The general rule is 1W per litre, so I would get another heater. Although a 300W may heat a 450L tank, it would be working flat out and you may shorten its working life dramatically. Two heaters would also create a more even temperature around the tank (reducing the risk of having a warm end and a cold end of your tank). It also means you have a safety net if one heater fails.

If you have a canister filter, I'd recommend getting an inline heater. Best investments I've ever made. I purchase Hydor.

I have just looked at them and look really good but the biggest is 300w would that be ok.

If not i can always one of my smaller heaters i have got as well.

I would think that would be fine. Remember, all the water coming out of your filter is heated to your desired temp and dispersed throughout your tank, so it's much more efficient than an in-tank heater.

Thanks for your advice never heard off them before but looks good so will get one.

Cheers again.

A single 300W heater is a bit small if you have much swing in room temperature. If the room is within maybe 5 degrees F, 3C, of tank temperature it will be plenty. If you do not want your room quite that warm, add a 200W to the other end. 500W total is plenty for a tank that size under normal circumstances.
