Hi All
I would like some advice, next week I am having work done in doors and the electric will have to be turned of all day, not sure what to do as everything will be of in tank. keeping heat in I think will be ok by putting duvet over tank but there will be no filter or air stone going in , it will be turned of roughly 8 to 9 hrs on 2 days on trot any advice please so no losses in tank.
I thought maybe give tank its weekly clean monday evening so water ok but not sure what else to do ?
Cathy

HI, have you got a nice neighbour and an extension lead..........job done :/

Hi I am lucky with nice neighbours so thinking will ask them , did not really want to bother them but looking likely only option that is if the great british weather does not rain  any more idears please if any ?

You shouldn't need to worry too much, tbh. Make sure you do a good big water change beforehand, and don't feed the fish for two or three days as well. That way the ammonia will be kept to minimum.

Hi, if it rains put your extension in a plastic carrier bag and seal it up.........hope all goes well, fingers crossed.......... :good:

Hi if i do a big clean on monday evening for tuesday then another one tuesday evening ready for wednesday and another wednesday and all good I hope but will have a word with me next door neighbour aswell
cheers for advice :good:

A more expensive (but worth it) option is to get a UPS battery, I have one because I get power outages here often.

To keep the water oxygenated you can get a battery powered air pump or you can do it manually, every hour get a little cup, scoop some tank water and pour it back in (should see air bubbles), repeat a few times and they should be ok. :good:

Hi did not think of extension lead in bag to keep dry :good: Will be at work so not an option for cup of tank water back in tank
cheers for all advice :good:

Our electricity was off in the spring for 8 hours due to work on our local substation. Even in spring, the tanks did not lose temperature badly. If you have some heating that does not need electricity in the same room as the tank (eg gas fire) that would keep the room warm so the tank temp wouldn't fall as much. But at this time of year, your tanks should be too badly affected without any heating, even in England, unless we have a sudden artic spell.
Because the work was planned so they had to give us notice, I cut down on the amount of food I fed both before and after the power outage. Apart from that I just kept my fingers crossed. I kept an eye on the ammonia and nitrite levels on all three tanks twice a day for a week, and never saw even the tiniest blip of either.
I know you have 2 days with no power not just one day like I had, but going by my experience you shouldn't have much problem.
