Have You Lost Interest?

My brother has a Juwel vision 180 tank, and has had it for 3 years or so, the light unit blew so hasn't had light in there for over a year now, my brother just feeds the fish to keep them alive, and has lost interst in his fish, he was contemplating on getting rid of his tank and getting a bearded dragon... However his other half has said no to the dragon, so he now says he wants to rekindle his love for his fish, but wants to change gravel and get some new plants/ornaments, also get new light unit, any ideas of how he should go about it? He has a 10inch plec, 2 rainbow fish, 4 inch red tailed shark, i think thats it, although the light hasn't been on for a while so there may be more. Any suggestions would be helpful, as i am just a newbie to fish myself, he was the one who got me into it, so i guess i owe him one.

and the red tailed shark? (i think i read on here they need 300L or more?) not sure if that's right... just quoting from on here

maybe get a nice bit of wood and try his hand at planted? it will keep him on his feet if he does high tech

agreed, best for the shark to have more of a swimming area but not sure of dimensions on the tank in question

nor was i but i guessed it was 180L by the name ;p

sure but a 180litre could still be quite shallow, giving swimming space (footprint) which for me is more important then just volume....anyway, its prob a 3 footer which is too small for a rtbs.

Just to let you know my brother has decided to do something about his tank. He had dremmeled the light box out of the hood, and took it apart and clearly it showed it had been fried! They are called Ballast boxes (i think thats how you spell it), it means they have no starter, just switch on/off.He has ordered another one which will power 2x 39w bulbs, plenty for his requirements. It will just slip into the hole which he cut and silicone up the underside of the hood. Job done! once the fish have adapted to the light (after it has been off for such a long time), he will get to sorting gravel and decor out. Another tank saved!
