Has any-one been to a LFS and seen a number of dead fish in one tank?

when ever i go down to my LFS There's eithger dying/dead Live bearer's

I Dont know if its because they are treated wrong or if they where dieing natuarlly?

Guys/girls do you think this is right?

I Heard that if one or two is dead in one tank its acceptiable but if its any higher then 5 not to bother buying there...

but its always atleast 1-2 fish dead in a few of the live bearer tanks...

A few dead fish here and there is normal, as long as the hole tank isn't dying then It would be fine to buy from.
some fish will die from transportation, its expected really, which is why the store normally quarantines.

If you always see lots of dead fish inthe tanks all the time I would make sure to keep any fish from their in a QT tank for 2 weeks.

Fish that are not raised locally often go through a considerable amount of stress when they are shipped in big batches to the lfs. Since most lfs don't have the facilities to quarantine them before they put them into the display tanks, it's possible you might be seeing the results of this. Even farmed fish have to be shipped and wild caught ones have many stops along the way from their natural habitats. This is beyond the control of the lfs who can only hope that most of them recover.

It's always a good idea to put new fish in your own quarantine tank for a few weeks just to be on the safe side. There they can be treated for disease if they start to show symptoms without risk to your established community.

Of course, seeing a lot of dead fish in the tanks, especially if this is common or they are present in many tanks, could be the result of neglect. If you suspect that, it might be time to look for a new lfs to patronize.
