Hi:

I'm a total newbie.

My set-up is two weeks old, but the wood is older than that (from a previous tank.)
This hair circled in the picture below is green and appeared within of introducing that piece of wood.
The rest of the hair is white and started growing later, but before I introduced the fish, and it seems to be spreading now.

The interesting bit is that I brushed extensively this piece of wood and not the other ones.
The hair started growing on this bit of wood, introduced a week later than the rest, and it has now spread to another piece of wood

Question:
I think that Pandora's Box is now open for this tank, and doubt that dumping the wood would clear it. Am I right ?

If I introduced algae-eating fish next, like a couple of Bronze Corydoras, would they help control the spread?

Any comment or help will be appreciated.

That does not look like algae to me mate, Looks like mold or fungus. I had something like this before I just kept cleaning it off till it stopped coming back. Did you pre soak the wood? Another option is to take it out and put it in a bucket of boiling water.

Thanks for the insight. I like the boiling water solution. Tank's up for water change today, and that will be part of the routine !
Cheers,
