Was at my most reputable, reliable LFS and saw the bettas in paper cups --maybe 14 oz and small jars... I see why everyone here wants to take them all home! Had a debate with a worker there about how it wasn't good for the betta--bent backs, etc. And of course, I got the usual "in Thailand, they live in puddles!" What I didn't like also was that they sell these beautiful, wooden enclosures with small betta tank that's supposed to look like a small tv, but the bowl itself was under a gallon!! Some that looked like glass bricks were 1/2 gallon! I'll have to talk to the owners...

Love to all fishies and their folks,

Luckily i have never seen bettas in an lfs in such small containers other wise i would bring them all home. Good for you on voicing you opinion, i would have to tell them that the ones that live in puddles are short fined and designed by nature to live in such a way plus the puddles are bigger than 13" in diameter (rough guess of jar/cup size) i should think, Grrrr they know nothing.

they only live in puddles (usually bigger than those cups) when its the dry season they actually live in rice paddies, they spout out the 'puddles' just because its what they are told by others and justifies their treatment of the poor bettas
