Guppy Breeding Diary

Natural life cycle who cares if a couple get eaten they added to the growth and strength of other fish.
Yeah, I suppose its survival of the fittest becaus the weaker ones woudn't hide I suppose.

That's why when I have mine drop, I rather leave them in the tank instead of a net (besides female will be less stressed than in a breeder net), so the weeker ones and deformed would be eaten or die. I know it's cruel, but I rather not cull them myself. I have enough babies anyway and seperated my male from the females till they drop their last batch in a few months lol.

I've also seen you have started your own guppy journal  ............................... :good:

You convinced me t start raising some guppies. :) Just not as many. Maybe 8 adults total. (2 males, 6 females) going out to get some females today!

Guppies are fun easy fish to breed. Just add water and get out of the way and you will have fry.

Yeah, I suppose once I have recouped my money back and sell on my shw class guppys, I might start with one of the harder livebearers, like the one in your display picture. How much do they sell for in shops?

LOL. . I was about to start My guppy diaries and realized as soon as I posted, you had one, that is why I have the one below it say delete please...lol. I like yours too and I can't wait to hear and see yours grow up.

Yeh, I s'pose you shuld write a diary because people might not get a question answerd in one diary but in anothr one.

Also, I found another baby fry from that female that gave birth not in a breeding trap and only 3 survived. :eek:sama: :saddam: <<< To Blame :p

Will add sme more pictures by wednesday people. You can see some tiny coloured scales on the biggest fry which are about 1cm long. So far, so good. My lfs' usually guppy supplier lt them down [for some species they order in wild caught fish] so that is kind've good for me if that happens again when I have some adult guppys I bred myself :)

The fish in my avatar is not a guppy Tropic John. It is a Brachyrhaphis roseni female. They are a bit less common in the hobby than guppies and are quite a bit harder to breed. I like her for what she is but she is not a sweet fish like a guppy.

Huh, yeah. It used to be like that for me, but now I can never find a healthy one at my petstore or LFS... I'll just get them from my friend who started with 4 and ended with 40....

Friends are often a better source of fish than a shop. You know that your friend's tank is healthy and has good healthy stock. The LFS just got their fish in 2 days ago from some foreign shipper and they don't even know if they are healthy yet. It is the reason that I prefer to source all of the fish that I can from private breeders, friends and fellow club members. I have nothing against a well run LFS and would very much like to get my fish there but I know that the huge bags arrive on Tuesday and by the next Monday the tanks are almost empty. When I was in the hobby as recently as 20 years ago, there were still LFS that got in a shipment of fish and quarantined them for a month before selling them. Those days seem to be gone now so all LFS fish are now suspect. If I see rare or unusual fish at the LFS they often tell a story about the fish arriving from a customer. Those fish are worth a closer look and often are a good healthy fish to buy.

You're right about that. I started with 2 guppies from a lfs and they died a month later...luckly I have the surviving fry left and bred him with guppies I get from a friend breeder too. She gets some of her fish from another breeder, so on so forth. We all had the same trouble keeping LFS guppies alive.

Hey all, Tday whilst I was at school one of the fmale guppys died while giving birth, only 1 survived. :( I s'pose yur right abouth fish from friends tc... I'm going to keep 2 males & 5 females frm my tank-bred batch & give the fry and adults to the shop @ 50p each. Also, ma dad jst bought 3 more females

Hey, do your female guppies gravid spots ever turn red-ish before they give birth? Or is that abnormal?
