Hi all,

I'm fairly new to having fish and even more so to this forum and am excited to absorb knowledge from everyone here.

So I had a question. I have a 5.5 gallon tank and had one male guppy in it and ended up going out and buying 2 females. The one female was pregnant. The male wouldn't leave here alone, I don't necessarily mean harassing here but he was always by her side. She just gave birth yesterday (don't worry, I will be giving away the babies, I know my tank isn't big enough.) and the male is still following here every move. He doesn't even bother with the other female. The other female is always alone and pretty calm/still, she isn't active like the other 2.

Is there a reason the male seemed to have just claimed the one? I'm quite curious.

Thanks in advance.

Oh boy, I suggest you take the females back to the store, this just wont work your tank is way too small. In a month or so you could have up to 60 fry in the tank.

If you want 3 Guppies in the tank get 3 males.

Is your tank cycled?

Yeah, or I could remove the male I guess and keep 3 females.

Yes, I cycled the tank and tested it.

Maybe not.

If your female is pregnant now she will become pregnant every 4 to 6 weeks for the next 6 months even without a male in the tank.
