Guppie Help Please!

Hi,

does anyone know if guppies can be bullies? i have 3 and recently they keep swimming around and chasing my silver mollies. does anyone know why? the mollies dont have any bite marks etc but they wont leave them alone....please help!

You sure they aint trying to mate with them?

Whats your ratio on males to female too?

have two silver mollies, 1 female and i think all the guppies are male actually....

Yes, you can cross the two species. If you cross a male molly with a female guppy you will kill your guppy. If you cross a female molly with a male guppy you MIGHT get fry and some MIGHT survive and they MIGHT not have the genetic defects common in such a cross but you won't EVER be able to produce viable offspring from the crosses themselves as they are essentially mules, and those that have been successfully bred have never survived to produce a viable breeding population which is why you don't see Gollies in the stores everywhere.

This just info i have read on the matter but never gone in depth cos never been interested in doing it

ah ok thank you....looks like its only the female molly they keep chasing so that could be it....

ah and another quick question....one of the guppies is hurt, could one of the other males attacked him? he has a bite mark by his mouth

Nobody is perfect and i have gave them the only info i know on the matter cos its not something i have ever considered doing.

I do have a problem with my guppy chasing my sword a lot too but since adding the female guppys he has seemed to have left her alone more.

Your welcome, whats your tank size? have u room to house more? always good to try and stick to 3 females for every male, although 2 females to every male is ok

260 litres! got a fair bit of room : ) think i will def get some tomo, just to see if that helps

Thought i best let you knwo that you will get a fair amount of fry of the females over time, is this going to cause you any problems cos if it is you may have to re-think getting females.
