Guaging Opinions...

Hi there,

BACKGROUND:
as some of you know, I'm running a high flow 106L/23 Imp.G. (30x12x18") setup, filtered by 2 externals (JBL e700 & e900), and 2 powerheads with hardy plants, reddomoor etc. and sand.

Current occupants are 3 Corydoras, 1 female bristlenose, 7 White Cloud Mountain minnows...

Now then thats around 20" of fish when fully grown...

So, using what I've always used (1" of fish p/gallon) I could have 3 more 1 inch fish (say... 3 white clouds, or a corydoras for example).

QUESTION:

BUT - the tank looks really empty!!

So the poll above gives instant info, but I would love to hear your thoughts - would you consider adding more fish than that (e.g. 3 more cories, or some Otocinculus, or 7 more white clouds for example) vastly, unmanigeably, curelly overstocked, or do you think 1-12 smallish fish in a 106L is ample?

Unfortunately a betta would end up flattened at one end of the tank because of the flow! Its like a river in there

I would double the number of cories to make a functional group that interacts well. After that maybe a few Characodon lateralis to round things out nicely.

I would personally up the schooling species you already have to something like...

~15 WCMM
~10 Corydoras[sup]*[/sup]
1 BN

However, I'm now going to do my usual "temperate vs tropical" bashing... Your current "tropical" Corydoras trilineatus need 24C, your "temperate" BN needs a minimum of ~21C and your "sub-tropical" WCMM need 16-22C. You would do your fish far better service by swapping out the C. trilineatus for a group of Peppered or something similar allowing you to drop the temp to 21C, if you swapped out the BN as well for a few "hillstream loach" you could have an even better lower temperature below 20C.

Yes I'm desperately trying to get one of my (2 ) local stores ( a P@H and a garden centre) to get some back in - I bought 5, 2 died - all the ones in the shop died) - I 'might' have to plump with getting some cories of a different species, but of similar appearance...

I do like those little Characodon lateralis, they certainly suit the theme of the tank! - they seem like prolific breeders though? - a bumblebee cat might sort that out though ;p (African not Asian)...

Oh don't worry, I understand that, the tank is currently running at 24'C and is very well oxygenated. The whiteclouds have grown and show much better colour than when I kept them at 20'C, I've had them for a long time. They've also paired and scattered eggs too though snails ate the eggs , so seem quite happy even at the higher end of their range.

I always inteded to add more white clouds, and if I could find some peppered cories I would deffo add them!

Thanks though, its good advice, I think I may just add more coried if I can find them, and up the school of whiteclouds (they are one of my favourite fish - and seem pretty darn immortal over the years!)
