Growing Algae For Oto's!

well the little .... I go and spend £1.60 (that was at lidl, a courgette at the co-op was £2.10!!!) and blanche it and wedge it under a rock and every fish in the tank ignores it!!! Grr

Otos are very shy little fish, they're far more likely to graze on it when the lights are off and they can come out in peace. Theyll also prefer it when it's softened a bit more, maybe tomorrow.

rocks, outside, in a bucket of water, in the sunlight = algae fest, swap them around every few weeks and you get happy fish

Are you sure you bought a courgette? I bought a smallish one from lidl a week ago for 30p (normal price)! This is a courgette: http://www.courgetterecipes.co.uk/how-to-fry-courgettes-the-right-way/

Oh and don't expect them to eat it immediately. Often it takes several hours for it to soften in the water to their liking.

Yes, it's definitely courgette! looks exactly like the picture. Maybe they're had to comeby at the moment or something?

Yeah...maybe not in January!

My oto's arnt one bit shy, they will let me put my finger right next to them on the glass and wont even swim away, i guess all fish are different.

not moving is a defence mechanism, because they are probably scared to death of you doing that and dont want your finger to attack them ;)

Nah i just said that as an example i mean you can easily sit there and watch them swim pass you and follow each other, instead of hiding :good:
