Gourami

Hello,last month i bought to male gourami,1 neon and another colour (orange in colour),the orange one is really lively and has his fair share of food,but the neon one (blue) seems to just hide in the corner and doesnt eat much food what could be the matter the water quality is ok,apart from it is on the slightly hard side and all my other fish seem fine,any help would be appreciated

i'm pretty sure that neons are schooling fish. i think you would need to buy like 5-6 more to really see them flourish.

sprry about that what i meant to say was i bought 2 gourami's 1 of them is a neon and the other on is an orange colour,i am havin trouble with the neon gourami

I have 8 honey gouramis some are shy. Some will come up to the surface for feeding (flake) the ones that dont like to share the plec's algea wafers also thay seem to like the granular (tetra prima) slow sinking food too

Hi, if they are both colourful Dwarf Gourami which I suspect they are then they are males. Being territorial I guess the orange one is dominant maybe?

For Gouramis you should have 1) Perfect water. 2) Well matured Tank. 3) Many plants and hiding places 4) 1 male to 2 females

Dwarf Gourami are very prone to bacterial infections.

Pesonally, I gave up keeping them a while back due to high losses

yes you are right the orange on is the more dominat,he still didnt look right this morning so done a good water change and then went to the pet shop,took a water sample and everything is good with the water,now tonite looks as if he id dieing,he is on his sde and just laying on the bottom,not sure what o next

How big is your tank? You need around 10 gallons/gourami, and lots of hiding places, rocks and plants for them to set out their territory.

The fact that he is lying on his side is not a good sign. Any other visible signs? Has he eaten? If not, try to catch the dominant one in a net, and leave him floating in the net for a while to give your other gourami a chance to eat.

i am sorry to say my neon gourami has finally died,i think he died of starvation due to the other gourami bullying him,now i'm not sure what to do next,should i get another dwarf gourami to keep the other company or should i get 2 neon gourami and see if that makes a difference with the dwarf gourami(orange one) any advice greatly received

dont get anymore gourami unless they are female, or you will have the same problem.

how big is the tank?
whats the stocking?

Lilfishies's right. Gourami's are very territorial and you should never keep 2 together, one will dominate and bully the other. If you're going to get more get 2 females. Of course this depends on the size of your tank and what other fish you have.
