hey all,
Well I was at wal-mart buying fish food with my gf who always like to look at the bettas. She screamed "look at this one, I have never seen one like this" Well I looked expecting some VT betta and what did i find? A doubletail female betta!! Marked as a female vt lol!! Of course I bought it, so now I am glad to say I am the new owner of a doubletailed betta for $2.50!! Would you say thats a good deal?? :shifty:

oooh well done, have you got a picture? I have a DT female i love them
)
I want to show her off sooooo bad (especially since I got her for less than a gallon of gas :hey: ) However, I do not have a usb cable to upload pics. She looks like she is wild caught as she has very brown and plain coloring, but I dont know much about double tails. Any good links on them as I have only been able to find VT's.

I saw a female dt the other day the bloke hadnt even noticed it. I spend ages peering at the girls bettas, they are so cheap and I have found 2 boys at different times... :hyper: :hyper:

OH! WOW! That is so awesome!! I would love to find something like that around here!!! And at that price wow!! :wub:

I am just about to fall off my chair that you found that at Wal-Mart!!! :rofl:

No see, what she means is, a doubletail is a variant of all tail types. So you could have a female DT that's a HM or a VT, it's just a mutation of those tailtypes, and they do contain a percentage of that tail type, so shes a female veiltail that has the doubletail gene, making her a VTDT female.

IF i COULD GET MY LITTLE GIRLS TO LIVE TOGETHER IN PERFECT HARMONY i COULD GO AND GET THAT DT FEMALE..... :hyper: oops sorry had caps lock on and cant be bovvered to change it.... :crazy: :crazy:

hmmm...Interesting, I will have to look into that a little more. Thanks K.J.

HM is also a variant that can be pk or long tail. Don't know if anyone has bothered to breed the gene into VT though. haha

The lines between tail variants are getting blurred with the explosion of crossbreeding of variants by breeders to develop new varieties of Betta splendens. I have no doubt that the so called wild species of Betta will go through the same developments.

The wild Betta splenden looks most like the pk without tail enhancements. It is I believe the Plakad pah in Thailand. There is also plakad lukmoh but I am not sure if it is natural to the wild or not. I'm not sure if the Thai know anymore. It is in the wild but difficult to locate anymore, although still bred. These two variants of Betta splenden are cross bred to develop a tougher fish.

plakad pah

This is the site home of this picture story of Siamese fighting fish

Cracker also has a site to look at.

There are no long tail Betta in the wild as far as I know.
