My 60L Cube

Back in 2013 I bought some red cherry shrimps and every single one died. A shrimp expert on another forum suggested that there was a shrimp specific bacterium in my tank, that there were things to kill these bacteria but the simplest thing to do was buy some beta-G to boost their immune system. I did buy some but it arrived too late to save the shrimps I'd bought (lost in post and the seller sent another)

In my case, the last shrimp to die was a female carrying eggs and she died immediately after the eggs hatched. Those babies survived and were the start of my colony. A few months ago I moved all these red cherries to my main tank as their tank was overrun with algae and they are still thriving in there.

Do you have any berried females among the ones you bought?

Oh man... That's the saddest story I've heard today. I'm sorry that's happened to your shrimps. Glad to hear the shrimplets survived at least. Give them a blanched courgette from me or something 😄

I found the beta-G on eBay for 12.50, so I bought it immediately. How much of it should I use for 60L tank?

No, no berried females. I thought just the white ring of death shrimps were dying, but the one today doesn't have it. There are saddled females though, I really want them to breed so I at least don't have to buy more perhaps :/

If you have both males and females you should have shrimplets at some point. My understanding is that the female moults and the eggs move from her ovaries to under her abdomen. As this happens she secretes 'here I am' pheromones to attract males, they mate and the eggs are fertilised. But this depends on the female moulting successfully.

The pack of beta-G I bought had a tiny dosing spoon inside, and my then 54 litre tank needed a fraction of a spoonful. See what yours says for the dose rate.

When I buy more shrimps from a shop for the gene pool I try to get a berried female among them - lots of shrimps for the price of a few :)

Yeah, basically how that works in shrimps.
I just hope they will breed, I really hope they will.

Will see the dosing when it arrives.

Last time I bought cherries at my local store, there weren't any berried females. Don't know if they just don't breed that well there, or they separate them.

Against all odds, against all that's been happening and happened... A very first berried female has emerged...

(Took the cleanest pics I could get outta my phone)
