Got A New Fish

my dad bought a pair of new fishes home but i have no idea who they are they are really swift i'm uploading photos so can anyone help me out with this thanks

They're Denison Barbs (Torpedo Barbs).

They get pretty big.

oh ok thanks for the quick reply but how big will a 50 usg tank be enough for 2 of these and can i have some tankmates with then currently they are in a 25 gallon tank with some neon tetras are they agressive??

they aren't aggressive, but need to be kept in groups of 6+ to be happy.

6" / 15cm is pretty big as far as active shoaling fish goes...

excellent fish but as said they do need to be in a bigger group of 6+. also the bigger the tank the better due to their very active nature, i would say minimum of 4ft

ok made a mistake back then it's a 30 gallon tank 3 ft wide so can i put 6 of these fishes in there???

I personally wouldn't agree with them in a 30gal 3ft tank long term. However in the short term... say up to them being max of 4" I can't see it being too much of a problem.

Hi nmore,

Was taking a look at your 5 posts and noticing you've been pretty good at investigating what to do given that your Dad brings home big fish and your little brother sometimes takes them and puts them in with other fish when you aren't home!

So that makes the question pop into my head of whether it's you or your Dad that's had some years of experience keeping fish? I only ask because here in the freshwater beginners section we get in so many newcomers who are faced with situations but have never really had access to learning the basics of making the right water for tropical fish. What's your situation with filter and water info?

thats not a bad price. these are notoriously expensive fish, i recently found some small ones at 8 quid each, but a week later went to 3 other different shops, they all had them, cheapest was 15 quid each, up to 22 quid each. and i know some people have reported them at mroe expensive than that.
