Going On Holiday- New Fish Tank Worries!

Basically I've just finished cycling my 21 gallon and I'm going on holiday for 2 and a half weeks so I won't be able to do my weekly water changes. It finished it's 2 weeks of fishless cycling on Monday and has one fish in it at the moment. My Plec is in there on his own after being moved from my 15 gallon(yeah he'll outgrow it soon, but that's not important right now..)
I did a water test on the new tank on Monday and everything was fine, nitrite = zero and nitrate was relatively low <20ppm. I left heater and filter running for 2 weeks then moved Plec in on Monday. He's doing fine. I normally do a 20% water change every week but I'm not here for 2 and a half weeks...

With it being an unstable tank and unmature tank (even though I put some mature filter media in) will my tank be okay until I get back? If not, what can I do? An extra water change?

When I go away I do a big 50-60% water change the night before and another when I get back. Admitttedly my tanks were cycled but you should be OK. Just make sure whoever is feeding the plec while you are away doesn't overfeed him!

If there is someone you trust you could ask a friend to come and do a water change or two while you're away, they really aren't that hard to do. There are also people you can hire to come and clean your tank for you.

Err, a fish in a fishless cycling tank makes it a fish-in cycle, n'est ce pas?

If no-one is doing any water changes for you, how about buying one of those products that absorb ammonia/nitrite/nitrates. Not sure of the name, perhaps zeolite, or nitra-zorb, Prime, or something along those lines.It might tie you over while you're away, but you'd probably have to re-do the cycling when you get back
