hey guys, thinking of getting a fx5 and getting rid of my tetratec ex1200 and eheim 2217, i would buy the fx5 and run it along side the other two for a few weeks to help it mature etc. has anyone one else here gone from 2 smaller one to one large, i will have acess to another filter if the fx5 was to break down. reason im considering it is i seen  fx5 at a lads house when i went to collect some yellow labs and it was a beast of a thing, nice and quiet and looked to be very powerfull

I'd also make sure you put the filter media from the two into the one, otherwise you're going to need to leave it running for more than a couple of weeks.

Personally it seems a bit of an unnecessary expense if your two current filters are working ok. Just because it looks good doesn't mean you have to replace your current filters. What would you do if it broke down? How would the other filter be ready to go and not cause any issues in your tank if it's just in a box somewhere?

It's your money of course but I think it's just a spend for the sake of it.
