General stocking questions

The gravel is aqua culture aquarium gravel.

Here is a website but there is no data. Which of these do you have. And can you find another site that tells us what is in this?

Yeah that looks like pretty much the same website or websites I've been looking at there's not a lot of information on what makes up this gravel. It says it's supposed to be a nerd but I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I might drive to Walmart and see if I can look on the back of one of the bags there and see if it indicates what kind of rock it is

Was doing a little research in case I had to switch would playsand be ok do you think?

Play sand is perfect. Try to get one that is no too light (in colour). Also make sure to rinse it thoroughly to get rid of any dust. If you are in the UK a lot of people use Argos play sand.

I agree. In my view, there is no better general substrate than play sand. I changed all my tanks about six years ago. There are no fish issues as it is the most refined of the industrial sands (not rough), plants grow very well in it, and the substrate fish have no issues with it. And it is inexpensive. If you are in NA, look for Quikrete Play Sand; it comes in a dark grey mix and a buff tone. The dark grey is better because darker substrates always are, but there is nothing wrong with the buff.
