General Fish Stocking Suggestions

I'm considering getting a 20 or 30 gallon tank for the living room. Could I get suggestions on freshwater species co-habitate well?

My average water condition is P.H 7.4, G.H below 10 and K.H 3-4.

Small species of tetra (neon, black phantom, flame, etc).
Small barbs (cherry, checkered, black ruby/ ruby).
A group of 6-10 Corydoras or small species of Botio (sidthimunki or lohachata).

If you don't get catfish or loaches, you could put a pair of dwarf cichlids in the tank. A pr of Apistogramma cacatuoides would go well with some tetras.

Keep tetras in groups of 10 or more of their own kind.
Barbs do best in groups of 6 or more and 8-10 of a species would be ok.

Apistogramma cacatuoides, black ruby barbs and black phantom tetras are some of my favorite fish.
