I've aquired both a whole partridge (well, it's so mini you're not likely to get it in bits...) and a whole (jointed, I believe) rabbit. Which is very good because I'm a fan of trying more unusual things. Anyway, I'm planning on having the partridge for dinner tomorrow, and the rabbit... whenever (it's frozen, so no rush to eat it).

So partridge. My original plan was just to roast it in a very yummy way (crispy skin, bacon, the works), and from looking on tinternet there doesn't seem to be a huge variety of other recipes. So any other suggestions (including what to serve it with) welcome. And also cooking time.

I had a look for rabbit recipes as well, but suprisingly there was even less than partridge. Nowt bar a few 'game pie'. So I'd be very welcome of something tasty to make with rabbit. There's at least 3 joints, so I can try a few methods.

try making a rabbit gumbo. i don't have a recipe that i can vouch for, but i've yet to eat a rabbit gumbo that i didn't like.

I have no ideas for partridge, but for the rabbit:
We stewed it in some herbs, rosmary was one of them and bayl eaves, and just whatever else you have in, it will work out, just use some veg stock, or water. You could add potatoes, turnips, whatever really...
When we did this we shot the rabbit with a .22, skinned it (if its a whole rabbit you have, I can tell you the best way to do it), then did that, fryed it slightly, then added all the juices. This was on xmas day in south africa, in 05? (the year of the tsunami anyway)

Recipes available via my favourite cook book;
roast rabbit, rabbit cacciatore (bacon, polenta), rabbit in vinegar, rabbit in olive oil and lemon (sounds v.nice), rabbit with bay, rabbit with mustard, rabbit in milk, rabbit with honey and veg, rabbit in cider, rabbit in red wine, braised rabbit and rosemary, rabbit with peperonata (pepornata always simple and tasty), stewed rabbit, marinated rabbit, stuffed rabbit, rabbit and tuna roll, rabbit and anchovies, rabbit and walnut stew, rabbit in a tomato and basil stew, rabbit 'tuna' (erm...) take your pick.
It's no pretencious cook book so all recipes are fairly straight-forward with accesible ingredients, just ask (if it hasn't been eaten yet)...
I assume the partridge is gone?
If you're into cooking buy an italian cookbook called the 'Silver Spoon' i hope i'm not over-exaggerating when i say it is one of the best italian cookbooks going, if not THE Italian cookbook.
