I'd love a marine tank, I'll probably get one once I get some tanks again..soon :). I'd go with Predatory fish - Puffer, Trigger, Moray, Grouper. So need a big tank first :D

I'd like a predator tank, but the lighting for reefs is a bit on the heavy side, having run a pair of halides on a freshwater setup for a year, I have seen the dent they make in your wallet.

Would love a tank with a leopard moray and a lionfish.

I voted "no" and happy with freshwater. Marine fish are too sensitive, too expensive, too complicated, and pretty much 100% wild caught. I'll stick to my cheapo, tame little bettas. Heh.

I've been planning to start a 5 gallon nano for a while to keep a mantis shrimp in, but other than that, I'm happy with FW. I prefer freshwater fish to saltwater most of the time... the saltwater ones are too gaudy :p. I love the subtle beauty of freshwater. Although, now that I think about it, I wouldn't mind having a big ol' dogface puffer :shifty:

Wish I could vote, but alaso it's a combinations of money and space !

I'm happy with my tropical tank! We used to have a marine tank when I was a child but it did not have all the stuff that is needed now! I talked to my dad about it after looking in the Marine section and ours was so simple compared to the ones set up now! Heck we even had an undergravel filter and no sump or anything like that! It's way too complicated for me to get my head round so freshwater it is for me! :D

we'd love a marine tank but wouldnt get rid of our freshwater friends & have no room for a start......also it seems very complex ive just now after nearly 4 yrs of freshwater actually feel like i really know what im doing ( with help on a reg basis from this forum when i have probs) there seems to be so so much more to getting a marine even startd & running and of course the money.........im always very upset when any of our fish get sick & die even 99p little fishes but gawd if a £25 fish got sick or died!!!
but they are so so beautiful!!!

I always think that the marine tanks look fantastic. However, being pretty new to all this I took the decision to start with the FW tank.

At the moment I don't have the knowledge, or the money, or the space come to think of it for a maine tank.

I would never get rid of my FW tank to get a marine one. Maybe one day I'll be able to have both.

if I had to choose I would choose tropical everytime,no competition.marine fish are beautiful, stunning and so colourful but from what I understand they need so much time and effort it would sort of take the fun out of it.My neighbour has a marine tank,it is beautiful but still prefer mine! :p

The damage to reefs in collecting fish and coral puts me off. My understanding is that it's incredibly difficult and limiting to go for an ecologically sound marine tank due to difficulty sourcing corals and other lifestock for it.
I appreciate the electricity and water costs of any tank are not the best for the environment, but reef tanks seem so much worse than FW in that regard.

Im doing just that now changing from FW to marine...its pretty exciting and if you look around you may find out its not overly expensive as you first thought, and the end result is well worth it i cant wait to start, but right now im doing my research yay! :hyper:

Hi all, I feel I would like to set up a marine tank at some time in the future when I have a little more fish keeping experience. I have recently seen a few marine set ups & have found them absolutely brilliant, I’ve also been told of a custom set up seen by a pal of mine at place he was working, which was made up of three tiers of a similar length but varying depth built into wall. Shallow planted fresh water small fish, medium depth mostly rocks larger fish, then a deeper marine reef coral larger but not overly big fish all together decorated & illuminated to give the appearance of one large tank. Unfortunately he never took a photo but this sounds absolutely amazing. But I’m pretty sure it could be done obviously not built into a wall but using three tanks, a custom built cabinet, a bigger house & very generous pay rise.

Saltwater holds very little interest for me, i like fish that are large and predatory so because of the restrictions of saltwater stocking levels keeping large marine predators would be extreemly difficult and expensive.

Mrs CFC on the other hand loves all the creepy little marine bugs and stuff so i wouldnt say there will never be a marine tank in my house, just i wont be paying to set it up.

i'll get one when i buy that pretty little cottage in the country, when i win the lottery...

ho hum.
