I just bought a second hand Fluval Venezia 350, and at a good price too.

Anyway, I've never had any experience of these tanks, so didn't realise that anything was wrong until I picked up the instructions to put it all together.

The guy I bought it from has removed both the bulkheads on the tank, and the instructions say never to do this under any circumstances.

I've managed to re-assemble the bulkheads. Any hardware experts able to advise if it'll be ok, or is it just a case of testing the seal? I'm scared to put any water in it now.

Thanks in advance for any help on this one.

I assume you still have the vynal o-rings with the bulk-heads? Also, do you have this seal on the in- or out- side of the tank if present?

If you don't have the o-ring, you need to get one/some and/or replace the bulkheads

If you have the o-ring on the in-side of the tank, it needs to go on the out-side of it ;)

Also, if you want to use any external filter other than a Fluval, you'll have to replace the bulk-heads all together. If you want to run a Fluval external under there, you'll have to keep the origional bulk-heads

Once the bulkheads are correctly installed, it should be fully waterproof. I'd still test it though to be sure, before moving it into the house :good:

Hi Rabbut, and thanks for the info. :good:

I do still have the bulkheads and the o-rings, however I have the o-rings on the inside of the tank. It seemed like the logical place for them to be. Do they definitely go on the outside?

It is the Fluval external I'm using so no replacement parts necessary.

Another question if I may? There is a flat layer of plastic with 2 large hexagons / octagons (can't remember) cut out of it. Does this need to be used for anything? I know the bottom of the bulkheads fits into it, but I'm not sure if its actually required for anything?

The bulk head should be on the side where the flange of the threaded bulkhead component goes. Basically you have the T bit and the - bit (- being the nut you tighten down, T being the threaded bit) to the bulkhead, and you want the o-ring between the T bit and the glass. Correctly installed (as I remember it) the T is on the outside of the glass, and the - bit screws onto this from above on the oposit side...

The bits of plastic you have are likely blockers for the bulkheads, supplied for if you don't want to run an external, but that is just a guess. Without seeing pictures I cannot say for certain, but I cannot think what else they could be...

All the best

I think the manual contains an exploded diagram. If you don't have it, a PDF is downloadable from Hagen.
