Hi guys,

I currently have a Fluval Roma 90 with a U2 internal filter.

I have been looking at upgrading to a Tetratec EX700 external filter. I have been searching around the internet for a few deals and have come across a used fluval 205 external advertised at £30 ono that is less than 18 months old.

Would this be too powerful for my tank and secondly would there be any common problems with the filter that i should know about?

thanks in advance

don't know the model from usae, so can't comment on reliability,

from the output it should do just fine in your tank, I use a JBL 900 on the same tank as yours. found that the flow was a bit too powerful, so I proceeded to use the spraybar after increasing the size of the holes to reduce the current in the tank

Righto, so if i had a spray bar it should be fine?

ps. how did you go about making the holes bigger?

many thanks for your reply by the way :good:

I just used the tip a steak knife.

It took some trial until I found the diameter I wanted. Ended up useing the spraybar all along the length of aquarium, having drilled holes of about 3mm to 4 mm.

I was using 205 on my Roma 90. It was ok. Didnt use the spray bar and the water flow was ok. I upgrade as well from the U2 and it was a massive difference.
