Hi has anybody bought one of these filters? Are they as good as everybody says? Dose the filter come woth all the media that you need? Cheers Adam

As far as I'm aware (I've not looked that deeply into it) they only come with sponge pads.

yes i have one of these,three years now, great filter,best to date for me, yes only come with the sponge,leaving you to fill as you desire,,you can use with just sponge, i used some pond filter media, works great, also alot of people by the hex cyramics which are quite cheap apparently...but yeah filters well worth the money

they come with basic madia 6 sponges the rest you buy seperately

Hi jacko yea i spent a few hours yesterday looking at all the different options i am gonna get the fluval fx5. It was just when i was looking there seemed to be mixed opinions on it and also it was never clear if the media came with but now its clear. cheers everyone

The only thing I would add, is the size cabinet (assuming you are using a cabinet with your tank) as the FX5 is a huge filter and I could only just fit it in a Juwel rio 400 cabinet. So find out the dimensions of the filter to see if it will fit.

Yes they only come with sponges, but filling them up with ceramic media (bio rings) or more sponge if you like, is only a small cost to add.

The FX5 IMO is one of the best filters around. I managed to get two off ebay fairly cheaply to be honest.

It is a very powerful filter and one that quickly clears any tank of debris.

A nice little feature on this filter, is that once every 24hours, it stops and perges any air within the unit.

I have a near 1000ltr tank, and wanted OTT filtering to get 'gin' quality water.

I had previously tried various types of media in these filters, however what works for me best, and allows once a year change, is to have the sponges around each basket (x3 backets) these in themselves get a lot of gunk, I then simply have bioballs in the centre basket. I tend not to use the other sponges.

The water is always perfectly clean.
